ABS pipeline of 11 kilometres

What is the ideal material for a pipeline of 11 kilometres that not only has to be strong yet light, but also insulating, tough, and chemically resistant? Imtech Projects, in The Hague, Holland, found that ABS (Acrylnitril Butadiene Styrene) met all requirements and more.

When the World Trade Center near Schiphol Airport was expanded with thousands of extra square metres of offices and parking basements, Imtech Projects designed the pipeline system to take care of the cooling of the building by transporting cooled water. Imtech also engineered all the systems related to the sewage, ventilation and heat in the newly built areas.

Saving on labour costs
When selecting the material for the extensive cooled water pipeline system, ABS was able to meet all requirements. The homogeneous material, which is very strong but also light, resists any chemical solution and temperatures as low as -40C. Because of the lightness of the material it is easy to work with and can be glued together easily. This easy workability reduces labour costs. The strong insulating capacities of the material were also very relevant for Imtech Projects, because the water needs to stay cool inside the system.
Vink was able to deliver the ABS pipeline material and all accompanying parts out of stock.
